Bold Branding for a Playful Southeast Asian Restaurant

Overview

Rung is a fictitious restaurant concept designed to introduce the rich, flavorful cuisine of Southeast Asia to the Western world.

The vision behind Rung was to create a dining brand that was bold, colorful, and unapologetically playful—a brand that would feel as fun and flavorful as the food it serves.

We were tasked with developing the complete brand identity, from logo to brand elements, to ensure that Rung stood out not just as a restaurant, but as an experience.

Branding & Creative Design

The foundation of Rung’s identity was built on two principles: vibrancy and playfulness.

We wanted the brand to visually communicate the energy and boldness of Southeast Asian flavors, while also making it approachable and fun for a Western audience.


The logo design combined symbolism with simplicity. At its core was a custom letter “R,” stylized to resemble a cumin seed—a nod to the authentic spices central to Southeast Asian cooking. This subtle yet meaningful detail allowed the logo to balance sophistication with cultural storytelling.


To complement the logo, we introduced a signature swirly pattern. Inspired by the way melted butter creates swirling ribbons across a bowl of butter chicken, this design element became a visual metaphor for flavor, richness, and texture. The pattern added depth to the brand identity and tied directly to the sensory experience of the cuisine.


The color palette leaned heavily on bold, lively hues—reflecting both the vibrancy of Southeast Asian street markets and the contemporary energy of modern dining spaces.

Playful Copywriting & Brand Voice

Beyond visuals, Rung’s personality came alive through its witty copywriting.

We developed a tone of voice that blended humor with cultural nods, ensuring the brand felt approachable and memorable.


From menu descriptions packed with clever puns to tagline concepts that teased the idea of “flavorful fun,” the copy brought the same playfulness and spice as the visual design. This synergy of text and design created a cohesive and immersive brand experience.
